Can you spot which student is out of position?
The students in this video are intentionally demonstrating some of the more common pitfalls that you will encounter with your beginning ensemble.
A large ensemble often masks discrepancies in individual students playing positions. A quick glance at this ensemble clearly shows one student who is not sitting in the correct playing position. What would you say to this student to get him to sit properly? What would you say if he asked why he had to sit like that? Reminding students that the sitting position maximizes the use of both hand and that holding the guitar appropriately effects the quality of sound is important. There are musical reasons for holding the guitar appropriately. Share them with your students.
