Tarantella, a traditional Italian folk tune is an energetic, quick piece that is arranged here for all Level 5 players. There are a few short shifts that are indicated in the score that should be approached with care. Simple slurs are included throughout parts one and two. Parts two and three will be playing more than one note at a time. Use a warm up for part three that starts with good thumb strokes and ends with alternation and thumb strokes at the same time. It would be appropriate for all players to learn all parts if time allows. The melody is recognizable and catchy. All students would benefit from learning Part one mm. 1-8.

Cultural/Historical Context:
The “Tarantella” is a traditional Italian dance that was originally intended to be played after a person was bitten by a poisonous tarantula. The victim of the bite would dance the toxins out of his or her body to the tune of this lively music.
