Contemporary
Composer:
Lee, Chris

This is a level 5 piece that uses many simple slurs in a musical context. All parts reinforce reading accidentals. Guitar 1 includes a few passages with complex rhythms. Model these rhythms for your students. Try not to get bogged down in explaining the intricacies of beat, time etc. Clapping and tapping exercises will be less effective than providing an accurate model and having the students play immediately. For guitar 3, the piece also reinforces the level 4 skill of reading on strings 4, 5, and 6. As the title suggests, Mosiac is a piece that creates a bigger picture from the use of many small parts. You should encourage the students to listen to how their parts contribute to a larger musical structure. As always, accent, dynamics, phrasing and tone are the most important aspects of the piece when teaching.
