This level 4 arrangement features prominent use of p, alternation between p - m, percussive elements, strumming, and natural harmonics. Always provide accurate models for each of the techniques and use the score as reinforcement. When teaching harmonics, remind students that playing with the right hand close to the bridge (ponticello) will produce the clearest notes.
Based on a traditional style from Spain, the primary melody from this arrangement recalls the famous movement from Suite Andalucía by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona. This very popular tune is common in drum corps and marching band concerts. The melody has also captured the attention of guitarists in the 20th century, existing in many different versions including those by Chet Atkins and Roy Clark during the 1960’s.
