Caprice No. 1

Caprice #1 by Luigi Legnani is one in a set of 36 short but dramatic pieces written for solo guitar. It is an all level 4 piece with an optional level 8 1st guitar part that shifts positions and uses ornaments. Each part will reinforce reading in the first position with the use of chromaticism. The melodic material will be passed from part to part throughout the piece, so it is important to isolate these changes in order to set the dynamic balance between melody and accompaniment. There are also numerous sections where part 3 is displaced with parts 1 and 2 by an eighth note (eg: mm 10), which will test the rhythmic precision of the ensemble.
