This piece is for level 3 and 4 players. Each of the respective parts work within their own range. Part 1 is the upper voice, part 2 the middle, and part 3 the bass. You may choose to teach players all three parts. Players on guitars 2 and 3 will start to gain fluency in the notes on strings 4-6. Players of part 2 should anticipate shifts in register at measures 7 and 8. Make sure the right hand fingers prepare on the proper strings in advance.
Modal music
This piece is in the Dorian mode. The music begins and ends on the note d (harmonized by a). Guide students to notice the collection of pitches and the absence of accidentals. Discuss the overall character of the piece and how that character is defined my modality. You may choose to illustrate how the Dorian mode derives from the major scale.
