Landscape No. 1

Region:
USA
Style:
Contemporary
Composer:
Swasey, Phil
Score Audio:

Landscape No. 1 is a late level 1 piece that involves all literacy and technical challenges of level 1, with an added emphasis on producing clear and beautiful harmonic sounds. The harmonics add depth and melodic content to the rich textures and the rote bass notes widen the ensemble’s range to create an engaging sonic ‘Landscape’.

Landscape No. 1 was inspired by a quote from the Sylvia Plath novel, “The Bell Jar”. The main character is remembering challenging or traumatic moments from her past, and follows with this:

“Maybe forgetfulness, like a kind snow, would numb and cover them.

But they were part of me. They were my landscape.”
