This is an all level 5 arrangement of one of Mozart’s most famous minuets. Players should have thorough knowledge of all notes in first position. The shortness of this piece allows for experimentation with phrasing, dynamics, and articulation. There are 2 measures in parts one and two that require extra attention:
In ms.1 of part one and ms. 9 of part two there is a figure in which the players should make a chord formation with the left hand on the fifth fret.
In ms. 7 of part two and ms. 15 of part one there is a triplet arpeggio. Students should practice these sections carefully before including them in the piece.
Historical Context: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) is one of the most recognizable musical figures in all of history. He was a fascinating child prodigy, composer, and personality. This minuet is one of his earliest surviving pieces, which he wrote at the age of six in 1762. Take time to research his life and discuss what makes his music sound like it is from the “classical” period.
