Soda Pop Sizzler, by Travis Jeffords, is an all Level 3 piece intended on teaching alternation to all parts. There is very little string crossing. So it is perfect for the early stages of level 3. All notes on treble strings will use im alternation. Any notes on the bass strings will use thumb. There are two rote notes on the bass strings that are indicated in the score. The pattern in measures 4 and 5 in part 3 is repeated exactly on string 6 in the following two measures. Every part plays this pattern. So teach this to everyone in the ensemble at the same time. The melody is passed to all parts at various points. Make sure that there is consistency in tone and volume when this happens.
Warm up idea:
Much of the accompaniment in Soda Pop Sizzler is played on the off beats. Construct a warm up that uses alternation on a scale, four strokes per note, but played on the off beat.
