In this video, students perform El Chinati, a level 2 piece from the gc.com music library. As always, expression, dynamic contrast, and character are the most important elements to address when rehearsing this piece. Fundamental techniques include: reading notes from the A harmonic minor scale on the top three strings in first position, simple rasgueado chords Am, Dm, E on treble strings, and percussive tapping in Guitar 2.
Helpful Hints:
If you have students with previous guitar experience that can play full first position chords in lieu of the three string chords, you may want to take advantage of that.
You may like to have students learn each part so that every student gets an opportunity to explore the various techniques.
Please see the Sequence Document attached to the score in the music library that provides detailed information on how to effectively introduce this piece to your students.
