The scales in level 4 should be played with 'p' strokes on strings 4, 5 and 6 and i-m alternation on strings 1, 2 and 3. Pay special attention to the moment where the transition occurs, making sure that students are re-planting their thumb as they continue with the alternation portion.
Although scales are an important part of any instrumentalist's development, beautiful ensemble music making should always be the priority in a classroom.
