A "slur" refers to playing two or more notes by playing the first with the right hand fingers, then lifting or placing fingers without right hand stroke. The result is a very legato feel. This can be accomplished in one of two ways: Ascending and Descending.
Ascending slurs (also known as “hammer-ons”), are demonstrated by the teacher in this video.
Descending slurs (also known as “pull-offs”), are achieved by first placing a left hand finger onto the string and then plucking the string gently downward (the tip of the finger travels off the string toward the floor). This action also causes a note to sound even without plucking the string in the right hand.
Slurs are notated in a musical score with curved lines connecting the two notes to be slurred.
