Sandías is a piece about home and nature. The Sandías Mountains are located on the outskirts of Albuquerque, New Mexico, adorning the city's skyline beautifully. Wherever you are in the city, at any time you can look towards the east to see these magnificent mountains. At certain times of day, around sunset, these mountains turn a striking shade of pink, hence their name “Sandías”, which means watermelon in Spanish.
In this piece, you will be reading notes on the bottom three strings (the 6th, 5th, and 4th strings), as well as full first position chords E minor and C major. You will also be using your right-hand ring finger (a finger) for the first time. There is always a melodic part and an accompaniment part. Be sure to understand your role and adjust your volume and presence accordingly. Remember, the melody should be a little louder and more present than the accompaniment. Classroom Activity
