Inspired by a quote attributed to the Austin, TX singer-songwriter Blaze Foley, “All wild things are shy.”, Shy Wild Things was written for the 2024 National Teacher’s Summit in Austin. This piece asks participants to not only play written ostinato patterns in the first section, but to create sounds and patterns that will be featured in the second section, The Forrest. This is an invitation to the performers to create from a place of complete freedom, without the presence of fear.
