An exercise in playing notes on strings 6, 5, and 4, this piece makes use of the lower range of the guitar. Every note has specific left hand fingering, including string indications above the notes. Students should carefully review the E major key signature before playing this piece.
Chord symbols above the staff provide the harmonies outlined by the bass line. It is fun, but not necessary to play the piece with the provided accompaniment. Specific dynamics aren’t included in the score, but the student should think about dynamics and phrasing. One suggestion is to ask the student to shape the line based on the direction of movement (i.e. descending lines lose volume while ascending lines gain volume). Students should practice phrasing based on listening and reflection. As always, expect and listen for beautiful tone from every performance.
