“El Noy De La Mare” is an advanced Level 2 piece that involves 6/8 time with dotted rhythms. It has a beautiful melody that should get much attention throughout rehearsal. Parts 1 and 2 can also be taught at Level 3, having students alternate i and m throughout. Prepare for this piece by having students play the one-octave G Major scale with BEAUTIFUL tone. Focus on the sounds that the students are making, no buzzing -with round, robust tone. As always, focus your rehearsal on small portions of music, hearing as many individuals as possible. There is a lot of conducting work in “El Noy De La Mare” with the ritardando and fermata. Make sure players are learning to look up at the conductor on a regular basis.
