A chorale from a Christmas cantata, this piece is perfect for a Fall concert. Fingered for level 2 players, guitar 1 is ideal for either beginning students or more advanced players. The other parts are accessible for level 4 players. You may want to ask the students to read each part successively, repeating each section three times. Historical perspective

The piece is also known by the first lyric in the original version “Uns ist ein Kenlein heut’ gebor’n” (Unto us a child is born). Attributed to Bach, the piece was probably written by his predecessor Johann Kuhnau.
