2b. (2) Right Hand Technique

Right Hand Position

Perhaps the most important part of classical guitar technique involves the setup and execution of free strokes with the right hand. This video provides and in-depth look at right hand technique with special attention on how to perform proper free strokes with superb tone quality, while avoiding common pitfalls. These techniques include setting up the right hand in the correct position on the guitar, arching the wrist, keeping fingers curved, keeping the thumb straight in front of the hand, and most importantly, ensuring that free strokes with the I and M fingers go inside the hand, past the thumb, straight back.

Be sure to watch our video on right hand pitfalls to help your students avoid bad, painful habits.
